Sifnos has no airport; everyone arrives by ferry at Kamares port. The road network is hub-and-spoke through Apollonia and Artemonas, so cross-coast trips route back through the centre. Local bus fares for 2026 are about €2.20 from Apollonia to most villages, €3.50 from Kamares port to a far-coast beach (Platis Gialos, Vathi, Kastro, Faros, Cheronissos), and €2.50 Apollonia to Cheronissos, paid in cash on board. Bus frequency is high in July and August (main port shuttle about 11 runs a day, last bus around 22:15-23:30) but thin in shoulder season, with last buses sometimes before 20:00. Beaches the bus cannot reach include Vroulidia (steep dirt descent), Fykiada (hike or boat), Poulati and Saoures. For motor rentals, an ATV or quad needs only a standard Category B car licence, but a 125cc scooter requires an A1 motorcycle licence — a car licence does not cover scooters, and the Greek Code 121 exception is residents-only. Non-EU/UK/US/CA/AU/NZ drivers also need an International Driving Permit. Helmets are mandatory on scooters and quads; the fine is €350. Peak-season daily rates are about €70 for an economy car, €65 for a quad and €30 for a 125cc scooter. Over five peak days a couple pays roughly €159 for one shared scooter, €56 for the bus, or €371 for a car; a family of four pays about €371 for one car versus €698 for two quads, so a single car beats two quads by about €327 and is the only option with A/C, luggage and legal child seats. Unleaded fuel is about €2.15 per litre at only three inland stations (Apollonia and Katavati); none at the port or beaches. Strong Meltemi wind and midday heat in July and August make open vehicles uncomfortable, and the island has only about ten taxis, which must be pre-booked.
